CHRIST AND THE CHURCH
Ephesians 5:22-33

1. Ephesians 5:32 – This is a great mystery (hidden truth), but I speak
concerning Christ and the Church (Christ =husband, Church=wife)

2. Ephesians 5:22 – Wives submit (to obey, be under obedience )
yourselves unto your own husbands (Church submit to Christ)

3. Ephesians 5:23 – Christ is the head of the Church

4. Ephesians 5:24 – Church is subject (submit, be under) unto Christ (in
everything)

5. Ephesians 5:25 – Christ also loved (agape) the church and gave himself
for it (crucified for it)

6. Ephesians 5:26 – That he might sanctify (to make holy, purify, set apart)
and cleanse (purify) it with the washing of water by the word (John 15:3)

7. Ephesians 5:27 – he might present it to himself a glorious (gorgeous,
honourable) church (wife)…it should be holy

8. Ephesians 5:28-29 – but nourisheth (feeds to maturity) and cherisheth
(cares for) it, even as the Lord the church

9. Ephesians 5:30-31 – they two shall be one flesh (Ist Cor. 6:17 – one
spirit)

10. Ephesians 5:32-33 – the wife see that she reverence (to be in awe of,
revere ) her husband (church reverence the Lord)
