Born Again

By Pastor Samuel Payne

John 3:1-8 3:1- “MAN OF THE PHARISEES”
Pharisees: a very religious sect of that day.
3:1- “ RULER OF THE JEWS”
Nicodemus was a leader of his people. Therefore, this shows us Nicodemus was a smart man as well as a man that dealt with people all the time. By being a “Ruler” he had to make some big decisions, which involved the lives of those, he served.
3:2- “We Know.. Thou art a teacher come from God”
Nicodemus knew enough from his religious teachings and the word to evaluate the validity of what Jesus had said; plus the miracles that were taking place to know that Jesus was truly of God!
3:3 – “I SAY UNTO THEE
Remember Jesus knew he was talking to a religious man that belonged to a denomination called the Pharisees. Just like today he would be talking to a Methodist, Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Pentecostal, Charismatic, etc…
3:3- “BE BORN AGAIN”
According to Jesus, if you weren’t born again you couldn’t see the kingdom of God. Even if you were religious, this requirement to be born again was still firm.
3:4 – “SECOND TIME INTO HIS MOTHER’S WOMB”
Nicodemus is thinking totally in the physical realm. You can only be born physically once.
3:5- “BORN OF WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT”
Baptize= to dip into, plunge under, dye a cloth
Born= spring out of, spring forth
Some people try to confuse baptism with born again. When in actuality they are totally opposite in meaning. To further understand verse 5, one must put verses 5 & 6 together to get the context of scripture.

Flesh= water bag of physical birth
When the “water breaks” one knows the physical birth of the child isn’t far off.
Spirit= spiritual birth of the Holy Spirit of God
3:7 – “YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN”
Jesus is adamant with this statement. He gives us no other options. According to verse 3, Jesus tells us we must be born again to both see and enter into the Kingdom of God.
To see the kingdom of God – you must be born again.
To enter the kingdom of God- you must be born again.
Born Again is a term used by Jesus.
3:8 – “SO IS EVERYONE THAT IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT”
Everyone that is truly born of the Holy Spirit of God will experience the Holy Spirit presence as the wind blowing! The Spirit comes on you, convicts you of sin, leads you to Jesus, AND then moves within at your surrender to the Lordship of Jesus in your life. You feel and experience the effects as the sound and movement of the wind engulfs you. Notice the word, Everyone- there is no other way.
1st Corinthians 2:14
“Natural Man”
1. Not Born Again of the Spirit of God.
2. Notice: The natural man cannot receive or accept the things or teachings of God.
3. Notice: The natural man considers the things of God mere foolishness.
4. One must be born again to understand God in the spiritual realm.
5. The mind, intelligence and education are not enough to understand God. One understands God in the Spirit; thus the tremendous need to surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit is joyful.
Converted
John 12: 40 – Converted
Acts 3: 19- Converted
James 5:20-Converteth

To be born again- one changes over from darkness to light. The word convert reveals to us the teaching of a total switch over from Satan to the Lord Jesus. There is most definitely a change in authority structure, action, and belief system when one changes over from the world’s way of living to God’s way.
Romans 10:9, 10:13
10:9- “SHALL CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH”
Confess: to declare openly by way of speaking out freely. The effect of deep conviction of facts.
Thy mouth: Everyone must confess with their mouth. You cannot do it for someone else. According to verse 10 it is the confession with the mouth that brings the Salvation or Deliverance.
10:9- “SHALT BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART”
Believe: to have faith in, to entrust, commit, put in trust with.
One must believe in the death, burial and Resurrection
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Also, know that in Romans
8:11, that Jesus was raised from the dead by the same
Holy Spirit that lives in us today!
10:13- “WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL”
Whosoever: includes anyone, everyone, nation, kindred, tongue, etc…
10:13- “SHALL CALL = SHALL BE SAVED”
Saved: to deliver or protect, heal, preserve, save, do well, be made whole.
1. Remember everyone must call on their own.
2. Remember everyone must call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!
Ephesians 2:8-10
Saved is a biblical term!!!!
======================================================
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for loving me enough to take my place on the cross and dying for my sins. Please forgive me of all my sins. I will now follow you and serve you as you lead and guide me. I do believe in the death, burial and resurrection of yourself for me. Teach me through your word and Spirit and help me understand the purpose of you in my life. I now transfer the ownership of my life to you. Thank you again for loving me.
Now according to you word I’ve confessed and believed. Therefore I am saved!!
In Jesus Name,
AMEN
