Reason
for Immersion:
1. Greek word “baptize” in
its primary meaning
2. Usual meaning of “into and
out of” the water (Matthew 3:16, Acts 8:38-39)
3. John’s Baptism (Typical
Jewish Baptism was total immersion)
4. The Early Church practiced
immersion.
5. The Greek words for sprinkle
and pour were never used in conjunction with baptism (John 3:23- much
water).
6. Every biblical case uses
immersion.
7. Immersion best visualizes
the baptism work of the Spirit as seen in Romans (Chapter 6).
Identification with Burial:
Colossians 2:12 “Buried with
Him”
Romans 6:3-6 “know ye not that
so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His
Death? (4) Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into Death: That
like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of Life. (5) For if we have been
planted together in the likeness of his death we shall be also in the
likeness of his resurrection.
The water becomes symbolic
of a grave. We then become identified with the death, burial and resurrection
of the Lord Jesus Christ in our life. How many graves have you seen with
only a sprinkle of dust over the dead corpse to cover it?
Truly Biblical Baptism is total
immersion and nothing else comes close.
Who is to be Baptized?: Believers!
Acts 8:13 “Simon Believed”
Acts 8:37 “If thou believest”
Acts 2:36, 41 “Gladly Received
Word”
Acts 16:30-34 “Believe in the
Lord Jesus Christ”
Baptism is only for an individual
when he comes to the point in his life where he can make the decision
to become a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ of his own free will. Therefore,
infants cannot make such a decision and show openly their identification
with the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ in their
being. Plus, there is not one verse of scripture to promote “infant baptism”.
This practice (infant baptism) is totally traditions of man and not scriptural
by any means.
When? :
Acts 2:41 “Same Day”
Acts 16:33 “Same Night”
Acts 8:36-38 “Same Hour”
Baptism does not wash away
your sins, only the precious blood of Jesus (Colossians 1:14). Baptism
also is not in any way essential for the salvation of your soul. Baptism
is the outward showing of the conversion that has already taken place
inwardly. It’s letting everyone know openly that now in your life you
have died to your old self in order that the Life of Jesus can flow through
for others to see as you walk “in the newness of Life.” Praise the Lord!!
Now take the First Step of Obedience and show the world and everyone that
Jesus Christ is Lord! (Galatians 3:27)
